Pancreatic cancer

Locally advanced pancreatic cancer often needs chemotherapy, sometimes radiation, and always multidisciplinary tumour-board discussion. In selected cases, specialists in Australia and overseas have explored IRE as an adjunct when surgery cannot safely achieve a clear margin.

Why context matters

Pancreatic IRE is technically demanding and is not appropriate for most patients. Decisions hinge on vascular involvement, response to systemic therapy, centre experience and patient fitness.

If you are seeking guidance

Your medical oncologist and hepatopancreatobiliary surgeon coordinate care. The rooms at Urology NSW primarily manage urological cancers; if pancreatic IRE is not part of your treating team's plan, they may suggest referral to a centre with that capability.

This page is general information only. It does not mean that a particular patient will be offered IRE. Treatment choice rests with the multidisciplinary team that knows your imaging and response to therapy.

For urological aspects of Dr Kooner's practice, see Urology NSW.

Considering focal therapy or IRE?

You can ask for a second opinion on imaging, diagnosis and treatment options before you decide.
